Protection and Connection

I’ve mentioned my love of Volkswagen adverts before on here but it’s fair to say that once again they have proved they know their market and get what it is to connect with an audience. On this occasion it’s about the role of a dad and their protective nature over their kids. Stand by with the tissues, it’s an emotional one.

OK Go do it again

How are they able to do this so regularly?

Once again, OK Go have melted my brain with an other amazing video. This time it is for Needing/Getting which sees the band driving a course arranged with over 1000 instruments over 2 miles. Watch it and enjoy. Also, if you like this, why not check out their previous work by starting here.

The Civil Wars – Billie Jean

Heard The Civil Wars on Jools Holland a few weeks back, they were amazing and were one of those bands that I instantly needed to hear more of. Incredible harmonies and soulful tunes, their album – Barton Hollow, is just fantastic. It was a post from the incredibly talented David McClelland that alerted me to this video of their stunning cover of Billie Jean – Enjoy. And take a look at David’s portfolio if you get a moment.

Kilian Martin, “that” Lucozade advert and a spin round Barcelona

Last June I told you about Kilian Martin and what an amazing skater he was. Now, he is starring in the Lucozade Advert that has been airing recently. It’s a really nice feel-good summer advert, lots of bright sunshine, gorgeous people, big smiles and awesome rollerskate and skateboard action. Pretty much the perfect recipe. Kilian Martin is the main skateboard protagonist, doing what he does best. The guy is incredible.

Check out the advert

The thing is though, it doesn’t really do Kilian justice, to see what he does best check out my previous post here or his more recent video of his tour around Barcelona – A Skate Regeneration. Just so beautiful and incredible skills. Enjoy.

One Big Family

I first saw this advert a few weeks ago and half way through, was trying to work out what John Lewis, Waitrose or some other higher end brand was advertising? Was it summer food? Outdoor furniture? And then my jaw hits the floor. It’s KFC. Kentucky Fried Chicken. Now go back and read who I thought it was for? Really? KFC in the same bracket? Well, apparently so. It’s a really classy advert and a world away from their previous offerings which felt pitched somewhere between Aldi and Argos.

This really is such a move away from the pre-conceived ideas about the KFC brand. I look forward to see where Bartle Bogle Hegarty take us next.

So here it is, in all it’s Middle Class chicken glory. KFC – So Good

(Music is Temple Cloud – One Big Family)

Motivation: Be Great

Motivation is a difficult thing. I have struggled a little this week to get out the door and keep to my training. I have however got over the threshold and out running both times when I felt like I couldn’t be bothered. As Austin said after my run on Wednesday morning, “Just getting out is the main thing”. He’s right (as ever!).

One of the things that has motivated me in the past is the fear of failure. But now what I want to do is show people what I can do. Not be afraid of what I can’t. This is what motivates me. This is what gets me out of bed at 6.20am 4 mornings a week to go and train. I am building towards The Fight and raising money as I go. If you can spare a few quid for Aware Defeat Depression, please visit my donation page.

It was great to meet some of the other fighters on Tuesday evening and get into the boxing gym and see the place. It’s going to be a great bunch of people to spend 8 weeks with but standing around, you couldn’t help sizing everyone up, wondering if they were going to be the opposition on the 23rd June. The one who would be coming for you. The one you would have to beat. I can’t wait to get stuck into the training. It will be a fantastic experience.

I came across this video and I liked the quotes about motivation. You can read the full transcript below.

Be Great, Be Powerful Beyond Measure

“Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep movin’ forward. That’s how winnin’ is done.” – Rocky

Here is the full transcript of the video:

You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you youre no good, and when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow.

Let me tell you something you already know, the world aint all sunshine and rainbows, its a very mean and nasty place and I dont care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

You, me, or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life; but it aint about how hard you hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward.
Thats how winning is done.

Cause if youre willin to go through all the battling you gotta go through to get to where you wanna get, whos got the right to stop you.
I mean maybe some of you guys got something you never finished, something you really want to do, something you never said to somebody, something.

And youre told no even after you pay your dues, whos got the right to tell you that, who? Nobody.
Its your right to listen to your gut, it aint nobodys right to say no, after you earn the right to be where you want to be and do what you want to do.

Now if you know what youre worth, then go out and get what youre worth. But youve gotta be willing to take the hits.  And not pointing fingers saying you aint where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that aint you! Youre better than that!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

All you chumps are gonna bow when I whoop him, all of you, I know you got him, I know youve got him picked, but the mans in trouble, Ima show you how great I am.

Enjoy!
