The future of video?

I’m a Nikon man but have to say, looking at what Canon are doing with their video technology in DSLRs I am massively impressed. The video below is just one of a number of high-profile shorts to hit the web which has been filmed entirely on a Canon DSLR. In this case it’s the 5D Mk II. Also announced recently is the news that the season finale of House is to be shot entirely on the same camera. Definitely the future.

This example not only looks gorgeous but is also a beautiful short film. Enjoy.

The Last 3 Minutes is a beautiful short film by cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, the cinematographer of Terminator Salvation. It was shot using the Canon 5D Mark II, and was sponsored by Canon to show off the latest firmware that enables 24p (frames per second) recording, giving it a “movie quality”. Filming spanned 17 locations across 4 1/2 days, and a wide assortment of Canon prime L lenses were used.

The present day portion of the film in the beginning was shot at 24p, while the flashbacks were filmed at 30p and converted to 24p in order to produce a dreamlike quality. You can read more about how the film was made on Hurlbut’s blog.

TAL 10

This weekend sees me heading to Leeds for the TAL 10 Hyperlocal news unconference. Having been heavily involved in the winning bid for the Welsh IFNC Pilot, it will be great to hear from other hyperlocal thought leaders. It will also be my first opportunity to meet up with William Perrin, who was part of the panel throughout the IFNC process but whom I never had the pleasure of meeting. Will be good to finally put a face to the name.

Looks like (Northern) Irish attendees are fairly thin on the ground with just myself and Pauline Sargent making the journey over the water. Not sure how much this says for the hyperlocal scene here but it will be intertesting to get Pauline’s insight on this.

All looks to be coming together and the topic list is shaping up well. Just a quick note to say thanks to Nicky Getgood who together with the rest of the Talk About Local team has put together what looks like a fantastic event this Saturday. Also looking forward to getting a beer with Josh Halliday having missed out this during his 2 previous visits to Belfast.

See you there if you are going on Saturday!

A Plastic Rose – Single Launch

A Plastic Rose

A Plastic Rose - Crowd pleasers

I previously posted the fantastic video for A Plastic Rose – Kids dont’ behave like this, well finally the single is available to buy. The band launched the single at Stiff Kitten in Belfast last Friday to a throng of ever-loyal fans who couldn’t get enough! The single is superb, a really great song that builds and ticks the singalong crowd pleaser box with ease.

Axis Of

Axis Of - APR Allies

The band were supported by Axis Of and Before Machines, both of whom were excellent. Great night, great bands and another step on the journey to putting Belfast at the heart of the UK music scene.

See if you can spot yourself in the crowd! You can view all the images from the night here.
